Earlier this month OneWorld announced that Fiji Airways would be joining the alliance and now, the airline has announced that it will be adopting American AAdvantage as its frequent flyer program. The press release doesn’t give a date for the change, instead stating that it will happen “in the coming year”. Fiji Airways is expected to join OneWorld sometime in 2025.
This collaboration will allow American AAdvantage elite members to receive benefits such as priority check-in, priority boarding, complimentary baggage allowance, preferred seats and enhanced award redemption when flying on Fiji Airways.
Fiji Airways Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Andre Viljoen, had this to say about the changes:
“This loyalty partnership marks a significant milestone, bringing together two renowned carriers to offer new benefits to millions of travelers. We are excited about the positive impact this collaboration will have on both our airlines and our guests who will benefit from the exclusive perks.”
Andre Viljoen, CEO and Managing Director
On the other side of the partnership, Anmol Bhargava, American’s Vice President of Partnerships, said:
We are taking our partnership with Fiji Airways one step further by offering our mutual customers the opportunity to unlock more destinations and travel experiences through the AAdvantage program. We look forward to welcoming Fiji Airways customers into the AAdvantage program so they can experience all the ways we deliver on our commitment that travel is better as an AAdvantage member.”
Anmol Bhargava, VP Partnerships
Fiji Airlines is a relatively small carrier and will be by far the smallest in the OneWorld alliance. The airline flies to 26 destinations in 15 countries and territories from its hub in Nadi. The airline is hoping this new partnership with American AAdvantage will drive more tourists to the island nation.
Fiji currently offers service to three destinations in the United states; Honolulu (HNL), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO). Most American passengers transitioning to Fiji Airways flights will likely connect through American’s Los Angeles hub.
Summary
While details haven’t been announced, Fiji Airways is adopting American AAdvantage as the carriers loyalty program sometime within the year. This announcement is an expansion of their ties to the Ft. Worth based carrier as Fiji plans to join the OneWorld alliance in 2025.
