American Airlines is Restarting Service to Venezuela

In a somewhat surprising announcement, American Airlines is planning to restart service to Venezuela.

American Plans to Resume Daily Service to Venezuela

While the launch is pending government approval, American Airlines is planning to reconnect the United States and Venezuela with daily direct flights. This makes American the first U.S. carrier to announce the resumption of service to the South American country.

American Airlines is preparing to restart service between the United States and Venezuela.

American Airlines began serving Venezuela in 1987 and operated the route for more than thirty years before suspending it in 2019. American was the largest U.S. airline serving the country when it pulled out seven years ago.

In announcing its plans, American’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nat Piper, said this:

“We have a more than 30-year history connecting Venezolanos to the U.S., and we are ready to renew that incredible relationship. By restarting service to Venezuela, American will offer customers the opportunity to reunite with families and create new business and commerce with the United States.”

American has not yet announced the route or routes that it plans on operating at this time and plans to provide additional details in the coming months.

I would assume that the airline would operate a route between its Latin American and South American gateway at Miami International Airport (MIA) and Simón Bolívar International Airport (CCS) in the country’s capital of Caracas. Depending on demand, I could see American add flights from Dallas Ft. Worth and New York as well.

Summary

American Airlines is preparing to restart service between the United States and Venezuela after a seven year hiatus. The Fort Worth, Texas based carrier has not revealed information regarding routes and timing, but does plan to operate daily service after receiving government approval.
