Two Delta Aircraft Collide on Taxiway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport

Two Delta Air Lines aircraft collided on a taxiway late last night at New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The aircraft involved were both Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jets operated by Endeavor Air.

The incident happened just before 10:00p local time on Wednesday October 1, 2025. Delta Flight 5047 had just arrived at LaGuardia Airport after a flight from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and was taxiing to its gate when it collided with Delta Flight 5155 bound for Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport (ROA) in Virginia.

The incident occurred at Delta’s New York-LaGuardia (LGA) hub.

Based on initial reports, and audio from Air Traffic Control (ATC), it appears that Flight 5155 failed to yield to the arriving flight as instructed. The wing of Flight 5155, operated by a 18 year old CRJ-900LR with the registration N902XJ, struck the nose of Flight 5047, which was operated by a 5 year old CRJ-900LR with the registration N480PX.

Though both flights were traveling at relatively low speeds, the impact was strong enough to knock the right side wing off of the departing aircraft. It also shattered the windshield and damaged the nose of the arriving jet.

There were 93 passengers and crew onboard both aircraft and only one injury, to a flight attendant, was reported as a result of the incident. Delta released the following statement in response to the incident:

Delta teams at our New York-LaGuardia hub are working to ensure our customers are taken care of after two Delta Connection aircraft operated by Endeavor Air were involved in a low-speed collision during taxi. Delta will work with all relevant authorities to review what occurred as safety of our customers and people comes before all else. We apologize to our customers for the experience.

This is the Third Delta Connection Incident in a Year

It’s been quite the year for Delta and its wholly owned subsidiary, Endeavor Air. Earlier this year an Endeavor Air CRJ-900 crash landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and ended up inverted on the runway.

Just over a year ago a Delta Air Lines Airbus A350-900 bound for Tokyo (HND) collided with a Delta Connection CRJ-900 bound for Lafayette, Louisiana (LFT) in Atlanta, knocking the tail off of the latter. Fortunately, neither of those incidents resulted in any major injuries.

It has been a rough year for Endeavor Air’s CRJ-900 fleet.

Given the age and the damage on the two carriers involved in the most recent incident at LaGuardia Airport, I would assume that the 18 year old jet will be scrapped while the five year old plane will be repaired. The newer plane also appears to have less damage than the older one based on photos from the scene.

While the aircraft involved in the Toronto incident was written off as a result of the crash, the carrier’s TechOps team managed to rebuild the aircraft involved in the collision in Atlanta. The team replaced the entire tail section of the plane so if anyone can repair both aircraft from this most recent incident, it is them.

Summary

Two Delta aircraft collided while taxiing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on October 1, 2025. Both aircraft were CRJ-900 regional jets operated by Endeavor Air. Fortunately, there was only one injury amongst the 93 passengers and crew onboard both planes.
