Weekly Recap: September 27, 2025

Greetings from Austin! While I’m not traveling this weekend, I leave Monday for my sixth trip of the month. It’s been a whirlwind week and the posting has slowed down more that I would have liked (as you can tell by the fact that this update came a day late). Unfortunately next week appears just as busy but, I’m hoping that things return to normal in October.

This week, Alaska Airlines announced a new lounge, American Airlines upgraded its champagne offerings, and Spirit revealed plans to furlough a large number of its staff. All of that and more in the ATX Jetsetter weekly recap for the week ended September 27, 2025.

Spirit Airlines Plans Another Crew Furlough, Cuts Capacity by 25%

Spirit Airlines has announced plans to cut capacity by roughly 25% and furlough one-third of its flight attendants. One would also expect to see pilot furloughs as part of this capacity reduction. The carrier is currently trying to shrink its way to profitability as it undergoes its second Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in the last year.

Delta Announces New Service Between New York and Porto

Delta Air Lines is launching daily service between New York and Porto for the Summer of 2026. There is plenty of competition on the route with TAP Air Portugal and United also flying direct between the New York area and the Portuguese city. Delta will be the only carrier with a direct flight on widebody aircraft, which should give it an advantage over the two Star Alliance members.

Review: Delta Sky Club Atlanta (ATL) Concourse A Gate A17

The Delta Sky Club at Gate A17 isn’t the nicest Sky Club in Atlanta, but it is one that I enjoy visiting thanks to the great views of the airfield. Since it is located directly off of the main concourse, it can get crowded at times but I still prefer it when flying out of Concourse A.

The lounge is expected to get a facelift later this year and I’m looking forward to seeing how the airline improves the space. While it is far from the nicest lounge at ATL, for reasons I can’t explain, I always enjoy stopping in for a visit.

Summary

After a weekend at home, I’m back on the road next week with a quick trip to New York. Hopefully things will slow down over the next few days and I should have the beginning of our amazing trip to Japan up next week. As always, thank you for checking out the weekly recap for the week ended September 27, 2025!
