Southwest Announces First New International Destination Since 2021

Southwest Airlines announced its newest international destination today, its first since 2021.

Southwest Airlines is Launching Flights to St. Maarten (SXM)

Southwest Airlines is starting service to Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) in St. Maarten in 2026. This will be the carrier’s first new international destination since 2021 and its third new one announced this year.

Beginning April 7, 2026, Southwest will fly one daily flight between Orlando International Airport (MCO) and St. Maarten, which is comprised of two parts, the Netherlands’ constituent country of Sint Maarten, alongside the French overseas collectivity of Saint-Martin.

Two days after service launches, Southwest will add peak-schedule service on Saturdays and Sundays between St. Maarten and Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI). These two nonstop routes will allow for roundtrip connections to more than 45 airports across the Southwest Airlines network.

The announcement of St. Maarten comes less than two weeks after the carrier announced service to Knoxville. Earlier this summer, Southwest announced service to St. Thomas, USVI, its first new destination in over four years.
