United Airlines Brings Apple TV+ Originals Onboard

United Airlines has made a significant improvement to its in-flight entertainment options. Beginning today, travelers can binge full seasons of Apple TV+’s biggest including Severance, Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Slow Horses, and more. Apple TV+ is available on more than 130,000 seatback screens via the United app.

United Airlines is reportedly considering purchasing some, or all, of JetBlue which could make sense for both airlines.
United has added Apple TV+ to its selection of IFE offerings.

United Airlines Partners With Apple TV+

The carrier’s new partnership with Apple TV+ comes amid its United Next growth plan. The Chicago based carrier has been investing heavily in the passenger experience in recent years, adding seatback screens to aircraft across the fleet and installing Starlink Wi-Fi on every aircraft, including regional jets. Once the plan is complete, United will have more than 300,000 seatback IFE screens onboard.

Mark Muren, United’s Managing Director of Product, Identity and Loyalty, said this about the addition of Apple TV+ onboard:

“Apple creates groundbreaking original series, and United travelers are going to love watching fan-favorite Apple Originals for free on their next flight. We’re setting a new standard for a premium inflight experience, and our first-of-its-kind collaboration with Apple TV+ gives fliers more high-quality content options on the latest high-definition seatback screens.”

With today’s announcement, Apple Original series will appear on a special Apple TV+ channel onboard. It includes the entire first seasons of Severance, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Slow Horses and Silo. The Morning Show and Bad Sisters will be added in September. United will continue adding new seasons and shows each month to its IFE offerings.

The addition of Apple TV+ onboard is the latest partnership between the airline and the tech giant. In recent years we’ve seen United add live flight updates for the iPhone and Apple Watch and introduce the ability to share AirTag and Find My location services with the airline to assist in locating lost baggage.

Aside from Ted Lasso, I haven’t watched any of the shows highlighted as part of this announcement (we have way too many different streaming services now). I’m looking forward to my next trip with United so I can check out these offerings firsthand.

Summary

United Airlines is introducing full seasons of select Apple TV+ shows onboard its aircraft. Shows like Severance and Ted Lasso are now available on the more than 130,000 seatback IFE screens throughout the fleet as well as in the United app. The airline plans to keep adding shows which means passengers should have more options to binge onboard soon.
