Greetings from Austin! After two weekends on the road the ATX crew is spending Memorial Day weekend at home. ATX Jr.’s first birthday party is right around the corner so I have a long weekend of yardwork ahead of me. This week saw multiple major news items for United Airlines, new lounge openings, and one very confused DoorDash driver. Those stories and more in the May 24, 2025 weekly recap.
United Reaches Tentative Agreement With Flight Attendants Union
United Airlines and the AFA-CWA, which represents the carriers 28,000 flight attendants, came to a tentative agreement on a new contract this week. This is a major development for both sides as United flight attendants have been working under an amendable contract since 2020. During that time multiple airlines reached new agreements with their flight attendants so I’m happy to see a deal is on the table.

FAA Reduces Flights at Newark Liberty International Airport due to ATC Issues
The FAA announced arrival and departure limits for Newark Liberty International Airport this week. Between May 20 and June 15, operations are capped at 28 arrivals and takeoffs per hour. Beginning June 16, when construction is not occurring on one of the airport’s runways, 34 hourly operations will be allowed. Hopefully this relives the congestion at the New York area airport and allows for smoother operations over the summer.

DoorDash Driver Ends Up On Taxiway at Chicago O’Hare International Airport
A DoorDash driver will have quite the story to tell after he accidentally ended up inside of the secure area at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The driver was on property for quite some time, and may have even crossed a runway, before being spotted by someone in the control tower. Law enforcement quickly engaged the driver who was not charged in the incident.

American Airlines Will Serve Tequila Onboard
American Airlines is adding a new beverage option onboard for passengers over the age of 21. The carrier has selected Socorro Tequila as its onboard tequila of choice which will make its debut on June 1, 2025. The airline has also beefed up its buy-on-board menu in an effort to pivot towards more premium options.

American Airlines Opens New Flagship and Admirals Club Lounges in Philadelphia
American Airlines opened two new lounges at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) this week. The Fort Worth based carrier opened an all new Flagship Lounge for long haul Business Class passengers as well as a new Admirals Club in Concourse A-West. This represents a major upgrade for American Airlines passengers in Philadelphia.

Summary
The reviews from our recent trip to Asia took a backseat to the news this week though I promise there will be more reviews out over the next week. I hope you enjoyed the May 24, 2025 weekly recap and everyone has a safe and relaxing Memorial Day weekend.
