Greetings from Lake LBJ! The ATX Jetsetter crew is off with some of our Houston and San Antonio based travel friends for a weekend getaway at the lake. While I’ll be mostly offline this weekend, there was plenty of news on the travel front this week for the May 10, 2025 weekly recap.

Alaska Airlines’ First Mother-Son Pilot Team Takes Flight
Captain Michelle Miles and First Officer Jeff Miles became the first mother-son duo at Alaska Airlines to operate a flight together. This comes less than two weeks before mothers day and roughly 29 years after Captain Miles joined her father in the flight deck on Take Your Daughter to Work Day.

Woman Gives Birth Onboard Ryanair Flight
A Ryanair flight between Belgium and Spain was forced to divert to France after a woman gave birth onboard. The baby girl was born at 18,000 feet before the flight was able to land safely at Limoges Airport in France with the mother and child being transported to a local hospital.

Frontier Agents Clash With Passenger at Check-In
A late arriving passenger and two Frontier Airlines agents got into an altercation at check-in when the passenger was told he was unable to board his flight. While the passenger hadn’t followed Frontier’s published check-in guidelines, the agents could have delivered the message in a more professional manner.

American is Considering Eliminating Bread and Butter on Long Haul Flights
American Airlines is considering eliminating bread and butter from Economy and Premium Economy meals on long haul flights. This comes as the carrier prepares to take delivery of 50 Airbus A321XLRs which will be used on international routes. The A321XLRs don’t have the same amount of galley space as widebody aircraft and American is looking for ways to save space.
The airline plans to trial these changes on flights from Charlotte, Boston, and Raleigh/Durham to London over the next few months. To me, this comes across as cheap and I’m interested to see whether the airline walks this plan back after the trial.

Delta Unveils an Upgraded Fly Delta App
Delta has just unveiled new, passenger friendly, improvements to the Fly Delta app. While some of the upgrades are already available, the Atlanta based carrier plans to roll out additional updates throughout the summer in an effort to provide a seamless travel experience for customers.

Review: Delta Sky Club Atlanta (ATL) Concourse D
Delta has just opened its gorgeous new Sky Club in Concourse D at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). The new lounge is bright, open, and has a ton of space for passengers. This is the most recent lounge to be renovated at ATL and, if this is any indication, I can’t wait to see the other lounges once complete.

Summary
With Mother’s Day right around the corner, there were a couple of stories this week that focused on the connection between a mother and a child. In one case, it included an entire Ryanair flight full of passengers. Delta unveiled a new mobile app experience while American is testing whether it can reduce service on long haul flights. Hope you enjoyed the weekly recap for May 10, 2025!
