Delta Air Lines has just unveiled new enhancements to the Fly Delta app.

Unlock Access to SkyMiles Benefits in the App

With the latest app update, Delta Platinum and Diamond Medallion members that hold eligible upgrade certificates can now see when an upgrade is available and redeem the certificates in the app during checkout. This brings the functionality Delta elites are used to on Delta.com into the Fly Delta app.

Also, in an effort to get more travelers to utilize the app, beginning June 1, 2025, Choice Benefit selection will only be available for Medallion members via the Fly Delta app. According to the airline, more than 97% of SkyMiles Medallion Members use the app to manage their day-of travel experience.

Delta is also allowing SkyMiles members the opportunity to link their Uber account directly in the app. Passengers can earn miles on rides to and from the airport along with premium rides, Uber Reserve rides and Uber Eats orders over $40.

Get Real Time Flight Updates on your Lock Screen

While it hasn’t been rolled out yet, in the coming weeks most Fly Delta app users running version 7.0 will have the ability to see real-time flight updates right from their lock screen and, if equipped, via the dynamic island. Note that this is only for users running iOS 16 and above and is not available on Android phones.

Passengers with properly equipped devices will see key events beginning three hours before departure, running through arrival at your final destination.

Additional Features Coming Soon

Over the next few months, Delta plans to roll out additional features in the app. This includes improved customer communications tailored to each passenger’s unique travel circumstances and the ability to book as a standby passenger on an earlier flight in the event of a disruption.

As announced at CES back in January, Delta is committed to improving technology for its passengers to create a seamless travel experience. Eric Phillips, Senior Vice President and Chief Digital Officer for Delta Air Lines, said this:

“By knowing where our Members are headed, how they interact with us, and what they value most, we’re able to offer choices and experiences that truly matter to them. We’re continuously improving the Fly Delta app to make it the ultimate travel companion, enhancing every step of the customer journey to ensure seamless and connected travel with Delta. As we announced at CES 2025, the next step in this journey will be leveraging Delta-centric AI – Delta Concierge—for an elevated human touch to supercharge the customer experience, beginning later this year.”

My Thoughts

While the new Fly Delta app upgrades are fantastic, they are hardly cutting edge. Delta’s app upgrades bring it more in line with its competitors at American and United with regards to alerts and notifications. I have travel booked with Delta next month and I’m excited to try out the upgrades firsthand, though hopefully I don’t need the rebooking option!

Summary

Delta has just unveiled new, passenger friendly, improvements to the Fly Delta app. While some of the upgrades are already available, the Atlanta based carrier plans to roll out additional updates throughout the summer in an effort to provide a seamless travel experience for customers.
