American Airlines is expanding its route map to more warm weather destinations for winter 2025/2026 with the introduction of some new, non-hub, leisure routes.

The Fort Worth, Texas based carrier has announced plans to expand its offerings to Cancun, Mexico (CUN), and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ). American will kick things off on November 8, 2025 by launching the first ever international flight from the state of Oklahoma.
American will connect Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers International Airport (OKC) with Cancun via Saturday-only service utilizing Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Beginning in November, the airline will operate more than 40 peak-day flights to Cancun from 19 destinations.
Travelers looking to head to the Dominican Republic are the real winners here as American will add four new routes to Punta Cana (PUJ). The carrier will operate Saturday-only service using Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Punta Cana from Indianapolis (IND), Nashville (BNA), Pittsburgh (PIT), and Raleigh/Durham (RDU).
Punta Cana is seeing a major increase in traffic from American and will see more than 20 peak-day departures to 11 U.S. destinations from the airport.
Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning, had this to say about the route expansion:
“American’s comprehensive global network is designed to give customers more access to the destinations they want to visit. Together with new routes, more flights on popular routes and extended seasons to major destinations, American’s schedule is designed for travelers to get away to sun, sand and more next winter.”

Summary
American Airlines is expanding its route map this coming winter with five new routes between the United States and warm-weather, leisure destinations. The state of Oklahoma will get its first international route with flights between Oklahoma City and Cancun while the Dominican Republic sees a large uptick in options by adding four new routes.
American plans to operate all five routes using Saturday-only service on Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
And they’re adding CLT to Aspen… gonna be a fun time for 4 hours on a CRJ-700/E-175 with a boxed meal. Departing from like gate E712. So premium.
At least Aspen can take E175s now, hopefully AA doesn’t stick a CR7 on that route.
