Starlux Airlines, the new Taiwanese luxury-oriented airline, has just announced its next destination. As of June 2, 2025, the airline will launch flights between its base at Taipei-Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and Ontario International Airport (ONT).

The new route will be operated 4x weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Starlux plans to utilize Airbus A350-900 aircraft on the route equipped with 306 seats. This included four First Class, 26 Business Class, 36 Premium Economy, and 240 Economy seats.
Flights are currently on sale via the Starlux Airlines website and will operate on the following schedule:
Flight | Departs | Arrives |
---|---|---|
JX 10 (TPE-ONT) | 8:05p | 5:05p |
JX 9 (ONT-TPE) | 11:10p | 4:15a (+2) |
Strangely, Starlux is branding its Ontario service as Los Angeles on the company’s website so, if you’re planning to book a flight from Ontario or Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), double check what airport you’ve selected.

In announcing this service, Alan D. Wapner, President of the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) Board of Commissioners, had this to say:
“We are most grateful to STARLUX Airlines for its confidence in our airport, employees and community neighbors. Greater Ontario is the gateway to Southern California – a premier destination served by one of the fastest-growing and most popular airports in the United States. We look forward to welcoming STARLUX travelers to the convenience of ONT and all that our great region has to offer.”
What is Starlux Airlines?
While most avgeeks are familiar with Starlux Airlines, the carrier has been covered extensively on a variety of travel blogs and websites, it may not be familiar to many folks. The airline is the newest, international, full-service, carrier in Taiwan, joining China Airlines and EVA Air.
The airline launched service weeks before the Covid-19 pandemic brought air travel to a halt around the globe. Starlux has large growth ambitions and was founded by former EVA Air Chairman Chang Kuo-wei. Currently, the airline operates narrowbody and widebody Airbus aircraft between Asia and North America and within Asia.
I’m somewhat surprised to see Ontario announced as the carrier’s next destination in North America. I would have expected Vancouver (YVR), Las Vegas (LAX), or Portland (PDX) to have received service before Ontario (Starlux has a codeshare agreement with Alaska Airlines).

There is no doubt plenty of demand in the Los Angeles area and Starlux will see competition from China Airlines on the route.
Summary
Starlux Airlines has announced its fourth destination in North America, launching flights between Taipei (TPE) and Ontario International Airport (ONT). WHile Starlux won’t have much in the way of feed on this route, there should be plenty of demand in the Greater Los Angeles area. Starlux will compete directly with China Airlines on this route once it launces in June.
