Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced the official opening of the Hyatt Regency Nairobi Westlands today, marking the brand’s debut in Kenya.
According to the press release, the new property aims to provide a five-star experience by combining elements of Kenya’s culture with the service of a Hyatt Regency. The property, located in the Westlands neighborhood, is a short distance from the Nairobi National Museum, outdoor parks, and shopping and dining attractions.
Stephen Ansell, Hyatt’s Managing Director – Middle East and Africa, had this to say about the opening of the new property:
“We are thrilled to debut our first Hyatt branded hotel in Kenya, marking a significant milestone in Hyatt’s growth in the African market. Underscoring our commitment to expanding into sought-after destinations and catering to the diverse needs of modern travelers, we are pleased to offer our World of Hyatt members and customers even more destination choices.”
The photos of the new property look even better than the renderings and we’ll dive into some additional details about the property below.
Hyatt Regency Nairobi Guest Rooms
The new hotel is outfitted with 219 rooms, made up of 147 guestrooms and suites and 72 apartments. The rooms are equipped with 65” flat-screen smart TVs, high-speed Wi-Fi, deluxe bath amenities, and high end finishes. Coffeemakers, a mini-fridge, and workspace are also located in each room
The rooms appear bright and inviting with hardwood style floors and earth tones throughout. The furniture also looks modern without being too over the top.
Hyatt Regency Nairobi Amenities
As one would expect from a full-service hotel, there are a wide range of available amenities onsite.
Food and Beverage
The property features three unique food and beverage outlets. The first of these is the District 6 Bar which offers a laid-back atmosphere with great music, an extensive selection of cocktails and beverages, and a menu with international and local favorites. The bar is located on the west side of the building which makes for some great views from the terrace.
The hotel also has a sit-down, all day dining establishment, E.A.T. which serves dishes influenced by African, Asian, and Mediterranean cuisine.
Finally, The Atrium cafe is located in the lobby which has a variety of coffees, teas, and pastries available if you need a quick pick me up.
Health and Wellness
If you need a place to work off your meal, the hotel boasts a 2,906 square foot fitness center that has all of the essential gear for a full-body workout. In addition to the fitness center, there is a 1,506-square-foot Aerobic Studio with classes led by expert trainers.
The seventh floor has the property’s pool, which measures in at just over 1,000 square feet. Sections of open wall allow sunlight to fill the space and provide views of the surrounding area.
For residents living nearby, the hotel offers the option of fitness center memberships that come with benefits, including pool, steam room and sauna access, as well as personal training sessions.
Meeting and Events Space
The first Hyatt Regency property in Kenya comes with plenty of meeting and events space and can host everything from small meetings to large conferences. The top floor of the property has one of the largest ballrooms in East Africa, with 360 degree views of Nairobi. Spanning more than 20,000 square feet of available space, the property offers 10 distinct meeting spaces with audio-visual equipment in each.
Summary
The all new Hyatt Regency Nairobi Westlands is now open and photos from the property look great. As a recovering Marriott Bonvoy loyalist turned free agent, I’m finding myself looking at Hyatt properties more and more, especially after a great stay at the Andaz Prague. While I have no immediate plans to travel to Kenya, if my travels take me to Nairobi I’d certainly give this property a look.
