Delta Air Lines has officially opened its new Sky Club at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). The new is located on the mezzanine level of Concourse A and measures roughly 14,000 square feet. The Sky Club has seating for 246 and overlooks both the airfield and concourse below. Bases on the photos, it appears that part of the lounge is open to the concourse below so things may get loud.
According to the airline, the lounge design draws inspiration from city-namesake Queen Charlotte and her long-lasting influence on fashion and aesthetics, with an emphasis on botany and bold, floral motifs. There are also many natural elements and materials in the lounge, meant to highlight Charlotte’s tree conservation efforts and green spaces.
The new Sky Club features a large food buffet, two beverage stations and a dedicated quiet space with six soundproof booths for guests looking to get some work done during their visit.
Claude Roussel, Vice President of Delta Sky Club and Lounge Experience, had this to say regarding the new lounge:
“It’s always exciting to plant roots in a new market and introduce Delta Sky Club to a new group of customers. We can’t wait for our Charlotte guests to experience the amenities and hospitality that have made our Clubs so popular across the country.”
It’s exciting to see Delta investing in a new lounge in Charlotte especially when you consider it doesn’t even serve all of its hubs from the airport. The airport is very much an outstation for the airline and still sees quite a few flights on regional jets and older Boeing 717 aircraft.
Charlotte is a fortress hub for American Airlines and, aside from an American Express Centurion Lounge, there aren’t many options for travelers on other airlines. As a Delta frequent flyer, I’m excited to check out this space on future visits to Charlotte and hope to see the airline continue to open lounges at major outstations.
Summary
Delta Air Lines has opened a brand new Sky Club at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). The new lounge has seating for roughly 250 guests and, between the carrier’s limited route network and the AmEx Centurion Lounge, should have plenty of room. While I haven’t seen it in person, part of the lounge appears to be open to the concourse below, so it could get quite loud.
