Spirit Airlines Status Match Challenge

Just in time for holiday travel, Spirit Airlines is offering a status match challenge. While this isn’t something I would normally write about, I recently had a chance to fly with the ultra-low-cost-carrier (ULCC) and had a good experience with its new offerings so, I figured it may be of interest to some.

Spirit Airlines is offering a status match challenge just in time for the holidays.

Spirit is matching the status tiers from the major U.S. carriers over to either Free Spirit Silver or Free Spirit Gold status for 90 days. During that time, you’ll have the opportunity to extend the status through the end of 2025.

In order to qualify for the status match you’ll first have to determine your eligibility. You must meet all of the following criteria to participate in Spirit’s Status Match Challenge:

  • Have a Free Spirit rewards account. If you don’t have one you can create it here
  • Have not received a status match or complimentary status in the past two years.
  • Currently have elite status with a qualifying airline that was earned through that airline’s published requirements (no promotional status).
  • Present an approved proof of membership document confirming your first and last name, airline loyalty account number, and elite status. This includes the points accumulated to earn status (I’m unsure if those with lifetime status would be excluded because of this).

If you meet the requirements outlined above, fill out the form here to be enrolled in the status match challenge. This offer expires on January 31, 2025 and the airline notes that it may take up to five business days to process so, keep that in mind.

Once your status match is approved, you’ll have 90 days to complete the challenge in order to extend your matched status through the remainder of 2025. To extend the match you’ll need to:

  • Free Spirit Silver: Earn 500 Status Qualifying Points (SQPs)
  • Free Spirit Gold: Earn 1250 Status Qualifying Points (SQPs)

Even if you don’t meet the criteria necessary to extend your status, it may be worthwhile to match your status if you’re planning any travel with Spirit in the near future. Free Spirit Silver and Gold statuses offer some great perks when compared to non-elite status.

Summary

While it may not be of interest to everyone, if you have any travel planned on Spirit for the first quarter of 2025 this status match could be worth your while. Status helps offset some of the fees charged by the ULCC and also gets you access to priority perks when traveling with the airline.
