SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System) is launching flights between its Copenhagen (CPH) hub and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) beginning in Summer 2025. The flag carrier of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden officially joined the SkyTeam alliance earlier this month and appears to be wasting no time updating its route map.
Seattle is a hub for fellow SkyTeam alliance member Delta Air Lines which will help provide feed for the route. SAS also notes in its press release that the route actually represents a resumption of service between the two cities, 57 years after its inaugural flight.
The flights are currently scheduled to operate 5x weekly utilizing a mixture of Airbus A330 and A350-900 aircraft on the following schedule:
Copenhagen (CPH) to Seattle (SEA)
SK 937 Departs: 1:05p Arrives: 2:00p
Seattle (SEA) to Copenhagen (CPH)
SK 938 Departs: 4:00p Arrives: 10:30a (+1)
The flights are blocked at 9h 55m westbound and 9h 30m eastbound and are scheduled to begin on May 21st. The flight will not operate on Tuesdays or Thursdays.
With Seattle added to the network, SAS will offer nonstop flights to 11 North American destinations. The addition of the seattle flight enhances global connectivity from Copenhagen Airport (CPH), which serves as a key international gateway to and from Scandinavia and Northern Europe.
Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS, had this to say about the new route:
“We are excited to expand our North American network with Seattle. The route from Copenhagen will provide more travel options for our customers and strengthen the connection between Scandinavia and the Pacific Northwest, a region of growing economic importance with deep Scandinavian roots.”
Also, the carrier teased in the announcement that Seattle is only one of the new destinations that they plan to announce in the coming days. I think it’s pretty safe to say that they will also be destinations of significance for SkyTeam airlines.
Summary
SAS is wasting no time adding routes after its move to SkyTeam. The flag carrier for Denmark, Norway, and Sweden will launch the route for the Summer 2025 season and has promised that more announcements are forthcoming. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the majority of these additions come at other SkyTeam hubs as the carrier realigns its route map to fit into the new alliance.
nice update! would like to fly SAS Business Long Haul some day…Delta miles promo?
Not sure about Delta but they have signed a codeshare agreement with FlyingBlue on some routes. Nothing long haul to my knowledge yet though.
