Booked: Our First Weekend Getaway With ATX Jr.

Mrs. ATX and I finally booked our first weekend getaway with ATX Jr! We decided we wanted to keep our first flight with him simple and looked for short, direct flights we could do in a weekend from Austin. We kicked around a few ideas but ultimately settled on Denver. Mrs. ATX used to live there and we have many friends still in the area.

Given mini-ATX’s schedule and the fact that he’ll be flying as a lap infant, we paid more and prioritized comfort and schedule over everything. United had reasonable First Class fares each direction and we booked our tickets for $555 per person round trip directly through United.com.

United Airlines Boeing 737-800
United had the best schedule for ATX Jr’s schedule as well as reasonable First Class fares for our trip.

You won’t see much in the way of reviews from this trip as we’re on a standard United 737-800 each way. I’m hoping to get one of the aircraft with the new United NEXT interiors to do a comparison but, either way, the 737-800 will be a new review for me. From my time living in Austin and Dallas, we typically get the Airbus A320 family or the Boeing 737-900ER.

In addition to only a single aircraft type on this trip, don’t expect any new lounge or hotel reviews. We’ll likely visit the American Express Centurion Lounge in Denver, which I’ve already reviewed and we’re staying with friends in Denver who also have a new baby so there won’t be any hotel visits.

Regardless, I’m sure we’ll have plenty to report back on, especially around what it’s like to fly with an infant for the first time and all of the things that we bring aboard to (hopefully) make for a smooth trip. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well on this trip as we have many trips over the next few months we plan on taking if everything goes well here.

Summary

Mrs. ATX and I are taking ATX Jr. on his first weekend getaway via airplane with a quick trip up to Denver. We tried to keep this trip as simple as possible which won’t do much in the review department but it should help mom and dad with their sanity. Hopefully we have a hassle, delay free weekend and the trains at the Denver airport stay operational.
